Anambra Governor Forms Inquiry Commission to Address Community Clash

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has created a seven-member Commission of Inquiry to look into the recent conflict between the Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities. This decision comes while a curfew remains in place in these areas to maintain order.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, announced on Saturday that the commission aims to investigate the causes of the clash and explore ways to achieve lasting peace. The commission is led by Hon Justice Nkemdilim Izuakor and includes two religious leaders from the Catholic and Anglican Churches, two traditional rulers, and the Governor’s Special Assistant on Boundary Matters.

The commission’s tasks include identifying the reasons behind the dispute that escalated between October 1 and October 4, 2026, and assessing any factors that could lead to further conflicts. They will also recommend actions the state government can take to resolve the issue and promote peace among the affected communities.

The commission is expected to consider relevant court rulings and agreements related to the dispute. They must complete their investigation and report back to the Governor by February 28, 2027.

Mrs. Nnake emphasized that this commission is part of the peace efforts initiated by the Governor, who previously held a meeting with community leaders to encourage an end to hostilities. The Governor has urged all involved to support the commission’s work and avoid actions that could disrupt the peace process.
