West Ham United Fires Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo After Poor Start
West Ham United has decided to part ways with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo immediately after a review of the team’s performance in the EFL Championship. The club announced this change on its website on Tuesday, stating that the board felt a new direction was necessary to meet their goals.
The statement from the club explained that the decision came after a thorough assessment of the season’s beginning. They believe that changing the head coach is essential to keep the club’s objectives on track.
Along with Nuno, the club also let go of Assistant Coach Rui Pedro Silva and Goalkeeping Coach Rui Barbosa. West Ham thanked all three coaches for their dedication and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The club has started the process of finding a new head coach. In the meantime, Mark Noble, Steve Potts, and Gerard Prenderville will temporarily manage the team’s preparations for their upcoming match against Cardiff City.
West Ham has stated that they will not provide further comments until a new head coach is appointed. Nuno was hired on September 27, 2025, after leaving Nottingham Forest, where he had a successful stint.
He previously managed several clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he achieved notable success by winning the Championship title and earning promotion to the Premier League. His goal at West Ham was to enhance the team’s competitiveness and aim for a quick return to the Premier League after their recent relegation.
