NDLEA Stops Armed Robbery Attempt on Kaduna-Zaria Highway
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed that its officers stopped an armed robbery attempt on the Kaduna-Zaria highway. The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Sunday near a checkpoint close to Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria.
According to Sani Garba, the Command Public Relations Officer, the NDLEA was alerted when a motorist escaped from the robbers and raised the alarm. The armed robbers had blocked the highway, but the quick response from NDLEA operatives led to a confrontation.
Garba stated that the operatives engaged the suspects in a gunfight, which forced the robbers to flee. He emphasized that their intervention prevented any kidnappings or abductions during the incident.
A video shared on social media showed multiple vehicles, including large trucks, left abandoned along the highway after the encounter. Some trucks had their engines running, while drivers and passengers were missing. NDLEA operatives were seen inspecting the vehicles and documenting the scene.
A senior operative from the Kaduna Vigilance Service confirmed that no one was kidnapped. He noted that the occupants of the abandoned vehicles returned and continued their journeys after the NDLEA’s intervention. This was not the first time such an incident occurred, as the area has seen several attacks in October alone.
Garba reassured motorists of the NDLEA’s commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure safety on the highway. He urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities. The Kaduna-Zaria highway has a history of attacks, including kidnappings and violence against travelers.
