Nigeria’s Flamingos Celebrate Semi-Final Win as President Tinubu Offers Support

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national football team, known as the Flamingos, after their impressive 3-1 win against Brazil in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

In a statement from his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the team’s achievement, saying it has brought joy to many Nigerians both at home and abroad. He also acknowledged the hard work of the coaching staff and everyone involved in supporting the team.

As the Flamingos prepare to compete against Japan in the final, Tinubu encouraged the players to stay focused and confident. He expressed his belief in their ability to win the championship, urging all Nigerians to support the team as they aim for the trophy.

The Flamingos made history by reaching the final for the first time after a strong performance against Brazil. They scored three goals in the second half, with Queen Joseph, Awawu Bashiru, and another goal from Bashiru securing their place in the final. Brazil managed to score a late goal, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
