Joint Security Operation Storms Kainji Forest in Largest Mass Kidnap Rescue Ever

In one of the most successful anti-terror operations in recent history, Nigerian security forces have rescued 308 kidnapped citizens trapped in deep forest hideouts across Kwara and Niger states.

The joint mission, coordinated by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), brought together tactical units from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.

Following weeks of intelligence gathering, joint forces launched a synchronized raid on terrorist hideouts in the Kainji Lake National Park Forest, located in the New Bussa area of Niger State. The operation led to the successful recovery of 163 residents abducted from Woro Community in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area, as well as 145 hostages seized from communities in Niger State.

Presidency officials characterized the operation as the largest single-day hostage rescue mission ever accomplished by a joint security command in the country.

Reacting to the operation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the joint task force for their tactical precision, bravery, and seamless inter-agency cooperation.

“The successful execution of this intelligence-led operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services,” President Tinubu stated. “I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian lives.”

Following their liberation, all 308 survivors were transported to the military health facility at Wawa Cantonment for immediate medical evaluation and first aid. Once cleared by medical teams, they will be formally received by officials from the Kwara and Niger state governments for final reunification with their families.

To prevent recurring mass abductions, President Tinubu instructed security leadership to immediately upgrade community-level early warning mechanisms and improve rapid response capabilities across vulnerable border areas.
