Goodluck Jonathan and Bayelsa Governor Honor Late Husband of Chief Judge

Former President Goodluck Jonathan and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri joined family and friends on Wednesday to honor Elder Freeman Ayemieye, the late husband of the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Matilda Ayemieye. The funeral service took place at the Saint Peter’s Deanery in Yenagoa.

During the service, Jonathan emphasized the importance of living a life that others will remember positively. He reminded political leaders that no one truly owns the world or even their own family. Jonathan reflected on the lessons of death, questioning how people would be remembered after they are gone.

He urged political leaders to consider whether they would be remembered for violence or for their contributions to society, especially as elections approach. Jonathan stated that no matter how powerful someone is, their legacy is what truly matters.

Governor Diri shared his experiences with Ayemieye, noting how the late man supported his wife during her appointment as Chief Judge. Diri praised Ayemieye for fostering a peaceful relationship between the executive and judiciary branches of the state, attributing the government’s achievements to their collaboration.

Bishop Nexon Enekeme, who led the service, encouraged attendees to focus on spiritual values rather than material wealth, reminding them that such things do not follow a person after death.

Dame Didi Walson-Jack, speaking on behalf of Ayemieye’s family, described him as a peaceful man whose life touched many. She thanked Jonathan, Diri, and others for their support during this difficult time.
