Wike Denies Influence Over Court Ruling for Okorocha in Imo West Senate Race

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that he influenced a court ruling that recognized Rochas Okorocha as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 elections. Wike made these comments during a live media chat in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Wike described the allegations as misleading and stated that he had no role in the legal case. He emphasized, “I didn’t go to court. I’m not in APC. I don’t know what the issue is.”

His comments come in response to a warning from Governor Hope Uzodimma, who reportedly threatened to seize vehicles from anyone supporting the Rainbow Coalition in Imo State just a day before the court’s decision. Wike criticized this warning as “very, very uncivilised,” highlighting the governor’s remarks against the coalition.

Wike also addressed a video circulating online showing him dancing with Okorocha, clarifying that it was taken when he hosted Okorocha during his time as governor.

The court’s decision, made by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Okorocha as the APC candidate, stating he won the party’s primary held on May 18, 2026. This ruling overturned the previous recognition of Uzodimma as the winner. Okorocha had challenged INEC’s decision, claiming he received the most valid votes.

The ruling has sparked controversy within the Imo State chapter of the APC, and Uzodimma has announced plans to appeal the decision.
