Delta State University Suspends Pro-Chancellor Amid Professor Title Controversy

The Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Delta State has suspended its Pro-Chancellor, Anthony Kila, as it investigates questions about his professorial title. This decision was announced in a statement on Tuesday, just days after an investigation raised doubts about Kila’s academic credentials.

The university stated that the suspension is part of its commitment to uphold academic integrity and transparency. It aims to protect the trust of students, staff, parents, and the public during this investigation.

According to a report from PREMIUM TIMES, there is no evidence that Kila was awarded the title of professor by a recognized academic institution. The investigation also looked into Kila’s claim of being a “Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development,” but found no supporting evidence.

Kila had previously claimed that he received his professorship from the European Centre for Advanced and Professional Studies in Cambridge, UK, in 2016. However, searches revealed that this institution may not exist, and he was not listed as a project coordinator in the European Union’s Jean Monnet programme.

Despite the allegations, Kila has denied being a “fake professor” and insists that he has valid credentials. He has expressed his willingness to provide documents to support his claims. Following the controversy, Kila’s name and profile have been removed from the university’s website.
