Bayelsa Police Chief Calls for Community Support to Tackle Cult Violence

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale, has called on traditional rulers, youth leaders, and Community Development Committees (CDCs) to work with the police to fight cult-related violence. This appeal came during a meeting with community leaders in Yenagoa on Friday, following recent incidents of violence that have resulted in deaths.

Adewale emphasized the importance of community collaboration in addressing security threats. He described traditional rulers as vital to their communities and urged them to cooperate with youth leaders and CDC representatives to identify potential dangers and share timely information with the police.

He stated, “We need your cooperation to identify potential threats and provide timely information that will help us prevent criminal activities.” Adewale highlighted that a united effort from all community members is essential to protect lives and restore peace.

During the meeting, community leaders expressed their worries about the current security situation and requested more police presence and patrols in their areas. They also stressed the need to keep the identities of residents who share security information confidential and pointed out other areas where police and government support is needed.

In response, the commissioner assured the leaders that their concerns would be addressed and emphasized the need for ongoing communication between the police and local communities. He encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or threats quickly to help prevent violence.

The community leaders thanked the police for the meeting and committed to working closely with law enforcement to reduce cult activities and protect lives. The police urged all residents to reject violence and support efforts to maintain peace in Yenagoa.
