EFCC Recovers Nearly $105,000 for US Businesswoman in Truck Deal Dispute
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully recovered $104,950 for a US-based businesswoman, Mrs. Adeshola Oshilaja. This recovery was linked to a disagreement over a deal to buy ten dump trucks from China.
The issue arose when Oshilaja’s business associate, Babatunde Samuel Akinsanmi, did not provide a clear account of the funds she had given him for the truck purchase. The EFCC returned the final amount of $56,000 to Oshilaja at its office in Lagos, completing the recovery after an earlier payment of $48,950 was made by Akinsanmi.
Oshilaja had transferred the money to two Chinese companies—Jinan Goneng Power Technology Company and China Howo Heavy Truck Industry Limited—based on Akinsanmi’s instructions. An agreement signed on July 25, 2023, showed that Akinsanmi acknowledged receiving the total amount for the trucks and promised to return it by December 31, 2023.
However, Akinsanmi received six trucks in Nigeria but allegedly kept them for his own business without sharing the profits with Oshilaja. The EFCC’s Acting Zonal Director, Adebayo Adeniyi, stated that this recovery highlights the agency’s dedication to returning funds to their rightful owners and continuing its investigation into financial crimes.
Oshilaja expressed her gratitude to the EFCC, stating, “I am so happy and grateful for all the effort the EFCC has put towards the recovery of this money. I can always rely on the fact that you are really working hard.”
