Anambra Governor Calls Coalition a Fight for Nigeria’s Future
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has labeled the new political coalition formed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election as a crucial battle for Nigeria’s future. He spoke during the launch of the campaign structure at the International Convention Centre in Awka on Sunday.
The coalition includes leaders from various political parties, and its main goal is to ensure Tinubu’s return to office. Soludo stressed that the Igbo people must engage more actively in national politics instead of staying on the sidelines.
Soludo described the upcoming election as a conflict between emotion and logic, suggesting that while emotional arguments may be popular, practical strategies will ultimately prevail. He assured candidates from other parties that they would have a fair chance, but reiterated that the coalition’s focus is on supporting Tinubu.
He pointed out that notable Igbo leaders of the past played key roles in national politics and emphasized that the South-East region should not isolate itself from important national developments. Soludo highlighted that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) recognizes the need for collaboration with the federal government.
Reflecting on his political history, Soludo urged the Igbo community to think about their long-term interests. He noted that state funds alone cannot support major infrastructure projects without partnerships with the federal government.
Despite Tinubu receiving only a small number of votes in Anambra during the last election, Soludo mentioned that his administration has still provided support to the state. He expressed hope that more federal assistance could come if more residents back Tinubu in the upcoming election.
Soludo called for an end to what he termed ‘opposition and protest politics’ in Anambra, encouraging the Igbo to take a more active role in governance. He also warned that a divided opposition would struggle to defeat an incumbent president.
Looking ahead, Soludo stated that the campaign would streamline its political structures in the coming week, urging supporters to remain focused despite any online criticism. The event also featured remarks from other political leaders, who expressed their commitment to the coalition’s goals and the importance of unity among party members.
