Big Win for Campus Workers and Students as Kebbi Clears N2bn University Allowances and Buys N1.75bn Fleet of Buses
The Kebbi State Government has rolled out a major multi-billion naira funding package for state-owned tertiary institutions, clearing long-standing staff financial entitlements and expanding campus transport infrastructure.
Announcing the measures in Birnin Kebbi, Higher Education Commissioner Isah Abubakar Tunga revealed that Governor Nasir Idris approved the immediate release of N172.15 million to settle accumulated tool allowances for both academic and non-teaching workers at Abdullahi Fodiyo University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA). The disbursement covers members across all major staff unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
Beyond the immediate payout, the state government permanently integrated the tool allowances into the university’s monthly subvention, locking in a recurring annual financial commitment of N2.065 billion to prevent future backlog accumulation. The governor also authorized N151.52 million to clear pending annual salary increment arrears owed to university personnel.
To address campus mobility challenges, the administration procured seven brand-new, 32-seater fully air-conditioned coaster buses valued at N1.75 billion. The vehicles have been distributed among seven state-owned higher institutions, including AFUSTA, Adamu Augie College of Education in Argungu, Kebbi State Polytechnic in Dakingari, and various colleges of nursing, health technology, and legal studies across the state. Government officials emphasized that the combined interventions are designed to boost worker morale, restore industrial harmony, and provide a safer, more conducive learning environment for students.
