Guardiola Shows Support for Manchester City After Financial Verdict
Pep Guardiola, the former manager of Manchester City, has publicly supported the club after it was found guilty of violating financial rules. The Premier League ruled that City committed 114 breaches related to financial reporting and commercial revenue between 2009 and 2018.
Guardiola, who managed the team for a decade before leaving at the end of last season, shared his thoughts in a social media post. He wrote, “I want every single Man City fan to know I am here; more than ever. I am, always have been, always will be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters.” He reassured fans that they would get through this situation together.
The Premier League’s findings indicated that Manchester City inflated its commercial revenue and misrepresented its financial situation, which reportedly involved concealing about £900 million in costs. The club has denied these allegations and plans to appeal the verdict.
Before leaving his position, Guardiola expressed trust in the club’s management and their handling of the situation. He had previously defended the club while awaiting the verdict, saying he believed their explanations.
Guardiola also addressed calls from some in the football community for severe penalties against City, including relegation. He mentioned that many clubs want this outcome but suggested that there is more happening behind the scenes.
City’s chief executive Ferran Soriano and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak have also assured supporters that they are confident the club will overturn the ruling in their appeal. The club was initially charged in February 2023, and the hearing lasted for 42 days, concluding in late 2024.
