NSCDC Suspends More Personnel, Orders Flags at Half-Mast Over Custodial Deaths

The leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified its internal purge over the tragic deaths of detainees in its Niger State facility, announcing the suspension of three additional officers and the ordering of flags to be flown at half-mast across all nationwide formations.

According to a statement released by the corps’ national headquarters, the fresh suspensions bring the total number of detained personnel under active investigation to 24. Those held at the Abuja headquarters for rigorous interrogation include the suspended Niger State Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, alongside tactical unit heads and legal officers connected to the holding cell tragedy.

In a solemn demonstration of institutional accountability, Commandant General Ahmed Audi ordered that the service flag be flown at half-mast across all commands for three days. The directive serves as a signal of collective mourning for the deceased and an unwavering institutional resolve to root out unprofessional conduct.

“As a Corps built on integrity, professionalism, discipline, and absolute respect for the rule of law, we do not condone unprofessional conduct, high-handedness, or any action that undermines the fundamental rights of citizens or the sacred trust reposed in us,” the Commandant General stated.

The NSCDC assured the public that all implicated personnel will be made fully available to the Presidential Independent Investigation Committee and other statutory panels to ensure that justice is served without compromise.
