Three Ships Hit by Unknown Projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz
A British maritime agency reported that three ships were hit by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. The vessels included a crude oil tanker, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, and a third ship, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO).
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial waterway for global oil and gas shipments, with about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas passing through it. Currently, the region is experiencing heightened tensions due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States.
Since the start of the war, Iran has been blocking commercial ships and has fired on vessels it claims are crossing without permission. In response, the United States has imposed a counterblockade on Iranian ports to hinder the country’s oil exports.
Details about the incidents involving the three ships have not been fully disclosed, and further information is expected to be released soon.
