Zamfara Prepares for 2027 Elections with Focus on Voter Registration and Security

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Zamfara State has seen 313,115 new voter registrations as of August 2026. This is part of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process leading up to the general elections in 2027. The information was shared by Dr. Mahmuda Isah, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), during a meeting in Gusau.

Dr. Isah noted that the new registrations make up about 16% of the total 1,952,060 registered voters from the 2023 elections. He emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to encourage voter participation and ensure the voter register is accurate and trustworthy.

The REC explained that while the local collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ended on October 15, voters can still collect their cards at INEC offices across the 14 local government areas in Zamfara. He urged those who have not yet picked up their PVCs to do so in person and reminded everyone that there should be no fees involved in this process.

Dr. Isah also called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and the media to help spread awareness, especially in rural areas. He warned against any attempts to undermine the election process, such as collecting PVCs on behalf of others or demanding payment for them.

As part of the preparations for the 2027 elections, INEC is focusing on managing the voter register, ensuring the safe collection of PVCs, and assessing polling places. They are also working with security agencies to address any risks that could affect the elections.
