Kano Votes Will Be Crucial for Tinubu in 2027 Presidential Election
As the 2027 presidential election approaches, all eyes are on Kano, a key state in northern Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), is particularly focused on this region.
In the 2023 election, Kano was won by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who received nearly 1 million votes. Tinubu came in second with over 517,000 votes, while Atiku Abubakar from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) received about 132,000 votes. Peter Obi from the Labour Party (LP) got around 29,000 votes.
Looking ahead to 2027, the political landscape has shifted. Kwankwaso is now running as the vice presidential candidate alongside Obi, rather than as the main candidate. This change raises questions about whether Kano voters will support him as they did before.
Additionally, Atiku Abubakar is now running with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which may influence voter preferences. Will the people of Kano continue to back Tinubu, who is still with the ruling APC, and help him surpass his previous vote total? These questions will be answered in just over two months.
