Nigeria, a Meningitis Hotspot in Africa, Pioneers Revolutionary Vaccine Deployment

In a significant stride towards eradicating meningitis, Nigeria achieves milestone rollout of Men5CV vaccine, marking global health progress.

WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus lauds Nigeria’s initiative, emphasizing the collective goal to eliminate meningitis by 2030.

Recent data from WHO highlights Nigeria’s urgent need, with 1,742 suspected cases and 153 deaths reported between October and mid-March across seven states.

Unlike its predecessor targeting one strain, the new vaccine shields against all five primary meningitis strains prevalent in Nigeria, enhancing efficacy and impact.”
