Umahi Says Peter Obi is Not a Threat to Tinubu in 2027 Election

Dave Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, stated that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate from the Nigeria Democratic Congress, does not pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. Umahi made these comments during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Umahi referred to Obi as his brother and friend, emphasizing that his views on integrating the South-East region into Nigeria’s political landscape have not changed. He recalled that while he supported former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in his state, he also encouraged the South-East to support former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He noted that during Buhari’s presidency, he publicly urged the South-East to give Buhari a significant portion of their votes, even as he backed Atiku. Umahi stressed the importance of a broad-minded approach to the upcoming election, pointing out that Obi is not the only candidate from the South-East region.

“We have three other candidates from the South-East contesting,” Umahi said, reinforcing his belief that Obi does not threaten the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He also challenged other presidential candidates to showcase their achievements from their time in public office.

Umahi’s comments reflect a call for unity and a focus on community development among candidates as the 2027 election approaches.
