Troops Overpower Terrorists in Kebbi Gun Duel, Rescue Six Kidnapped Victims Unharmed

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued six kidnapped victims following an intense firefight with an armed syndicate in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The tactical operation was mounted by soldiers of Sector 2 after receiving credible intelligence warning of suspected terrorist maneuvers around Mehinua Village, a transit point along the Wasagu-Ayu Road.

Confirming the rescue in an official statement, the Media Information Officer for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed that troops mobilized swiftly to intercept the gang before they could move their captives into remote forest enclaves. Upon establishing contact at the location, the soldiers engaged the armed elements with a heavy volume of fire, seizing operational momentum.

Outgunned and pressured by superior military firepower, the criminals were forced to abandon the hostages and flee into the surrounding bush. Troops immediately cordoned off the encounter site and successfully brought all six victims out of danger without any injuries.

Alongside securing the captives, the soldiers impounded an operational vehicle abandoned by the fleeing gang. Both the freed individuals and the recovered vehicle were formally transferred to relevant community leaders and local authorities for profiling, welfare checks, and safe reunification with their families.

The military high command applauded the community for volunteering timely information that enabled the rapid intervention. Reaffirming the Armed Forces’ resolve to eradicate kidnapping and banditry across the North-West joint operations area, Danja urged residents to maintain close synergy with security personnel by promptly reporting suspicious movements to nearby military and police posts.
