Edo State Governor Commits to Empower Women and Protect Girls on International Day of the Girl Child

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to empower women and protect girls as part of his administration’s commitment to their welfare. His remarks came during the International Day of the Girl Child celebrations on Sunday.

Okpebholo emphasized the importance of providing girls with access to education, healthcare, and skills training. He stated that investing in girls is a key part of his development agenda. He believes that a girl who is educated and healthy will contribute positively to society in the future.

Recently, 50 women graduated from a training program focused on converting vehicles to use compressed natural gas, marking the first initiative aimed at training female mechanics in the state. The governor plans to create more opportunities for women in various sectors, including commercial tricycle riding.

On the topic of protecting girls, Okpebholo highlighted programs such as the Pad a Girl initiative and the SHINE Agenda, which aim to improve the welfare of girls. He also mentioned efforts to enhance maternal healthcare, ensuring safer childbirth for women in Edo State.

The governor acknowledged the ongoing challenges in keeping girls in school and protecting them from abuse. He called for collaboration among government, families, and community leaders to strengthen these efforts.

In his message, Okpebholo wished all women and girls in Edo State a happy International Day of the Girl Child, reaffirming his commitment to their safety and opportunities.
