Senator Natasha Urges Kogi Central Voters to Evaluate Candidates on Past Performance
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has called on voters to assess candidates in the upcoming 2027 elections based on their past performance and integrity. She emphasized that constituents should focus on what candidates have accomplished in public office rather than just their campaign promises.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Akpoti-Uduaghan highlighted that many individuals running for office have previously held public positions. Therefore, voters should evaluate them based on their track records. She stated, “Most of those contesting have held elective positions before. So, electorates will have to judge us based on what we have been able to achieve when we had the opportunity to serve.”
Her comments come as political interest in Kogi Central grows, especially after former Governor Yahaya Bello expressed confidence in his chances for the senatorial seat. Bello, who was governor from 2016 to 2024, predicted a decisive victory for himself and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a recent television interview.
In light of the upcoming elections, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged voters to look beyond party lines and political talk when evaluating candidates. She pointed out various projects her administration has supported, including road construction, clean water initiatives, educational facilities, and healthcare improvements.
Akpoti-Uduaghan aims to build on her previous achievements from 2027 to 2031, focusing on creating a prosperous and well-developed Kogi Central. Her call for voters to prioritize performance reflects a growing desire for accountability in the political landscape.
Supporters of Akpoti-Uduaghan echoed her sentiments, with community leader Saidu Bello stating that her time in the Senate has brought noticeable benefits to the area. Young entrepreneur Farouk Lamisi also noted that voters are increasingly interested in candidates who deliver real results for their communities.
As the 2027 elections approach, the contest in Kogi Central is expected to highlight the importance of candidates’ records and their impact on local development. Voters will have the chance to compare candidates based on their contributions to infrastructure, education, and public welfare.
