Oyo Assembly Advances Bill for New University in Igboora
The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish the Oyo State University of Agriculture and Technology in Igboora during a session on Tuesday. The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, led the meeting where the bill successfully passed its second reading.
This proposed university aims to create a legal framework for its establishment and operation. The bill was co-sponsored by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, and Hon. Peter Ojedokun, who represents the Ibarapa Central/North State Constituency.
If the university is established, it will increase access to higher education and focus on agricultural education, research, and technological innovation. This initiative is particularly aimed at benefiting the Ibarapa region and other areas in Oyo State.
After the second reading, the House has sent the bill to the Committee on Education, which will review its details. The committee will also consult with relevant stakeholders and prepare a report for the House. This report will be crucial for the bill’s next steps, including a third reading and final approval.
