Olubadan Praises Federal Government’s Skills Program as Key to Reducing Poverty

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has praised the Federal Government’s skills acquisition program, calling it a major step in fighting poverty and unemployment. He made these comments during a visit from Dr. Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, at his palace in Ibadan, Oyo State.

This initiative, part of President Bola Tinubu’s National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy, aims to provide young Nigerians with practical skills to help them achieve economic independence. On Friday, a vocational training program will conclude, benefiting 200 youths in Oyo State who will receive equipment to start their own businesses. Additionally, 700 others will receive digital tablets to enhance their skills in the digital economy.

Oba Ladoja expressed his satisfaction with the government’s focus on equipping young people with skills that can lead to sustainable income. He urged influential Nigerians and organizations to support similar initiatives to help reduce poverty. He believes that vocational training can play a crucial role in addressing unemployment, especially for youth who may struggle to find formal jobs.

Dr. Arogundade shared that the training included practical lessons in areas such as graphic design, makeup artistry, and fashion design. The program is designed to ensure that participants gain hands-on experience and tools relevant to their chosen fields.

The Olubadan emphasized the importance of collective action in the fight against poverty, stating that everyone has a role to play in supporting such programs. He is hopeful that continued investment in skills training will help more Nigerians achieve financial independence.
