Nigerian Troops Defend Military Base Against ISWAP Attack, Over 25 Terrorists Killed

Nigerian Army troops from the 101 Special Forces Battalion in Kukawa, Borno State, faced a significant attack from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Tuesday night. The assault occurred between 9:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. when a large group of terrorists attempted to overrun the military base from four different directions.

According to security sources, the troops, with support from air forces, engaged in a fierce battle against the attackers. The fighting resulted in the deaths of over 25 terrorists, with troops recovering 14 bodies from the scene. Additionally, soldiers seized a large amount of weapons, including six AK-47 rifles, from the fleeing militants.

While the military successfully repelled the attack, they also suffered casualties, with some soldiers killed and others injured. In response to the attack, the Brigade Commander visited the area to oversee the adjustment of the troops’ defenses and to replenish resources.

This incident highlights the ongoing commitment of Nigerian forces to combat terrorist activities in the Kukawa area and other regions around Lake Chad. Further updates on the situation, including details about casualties and recovered weapons, are anticipated as the military conducts its assessment.

Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed the attack, stating that while the terrorists assaulted the base, they were ultimately defeated and suffered significant losses.
