Nigeria’s Flamingos Win 1-0 Against Venezuela to Reach U-17 World Cup Semifinals

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, has reached the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. They achieved this by defeating Venezuela 1-0 in a quarter-final match on Sunday.

The match took place at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Morocco. The only goal came late in the game when captain Azeezat Oduntan scored from a penalty kick in the 89th minute. This opportunity arose after Oluebube Umejiaku was fouled in the penalty area, and the decision was confirmed by a video review.

Throughout the match, Nigeria dominated possession and created several scoring chances but could not find the net until the final moments. With this victory, the Flamingos are set to face Brazil in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 4.
