NEMA Provides Relief to Flood Victims in Ebonyi State After Severe Flooding

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered relief supplies to families affected by severe flash floods in Ebonyi State. The donation includes essential food items like rice, beans, and garri, as well as vegetable oil.

This assistance comes after heavy flooding on September 23, 2026, which impacted several communities in Ivo and Ohaozara local government areas. The floods destroyed farmland, damaged homes, and displaced many families.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State welcomed the federal delegation at the Government House in Abakaliki. He expressed concern over the frequent flooding in the state and thanked the Federal Government for its quick response. “The incessant cases of flood disasters across our communities remain deeply devastating to our people and local economy,” he said.

NEMA’s Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Bature Usman, highlighted the importance of the relief effort. He stated that the agency aims to provide immediate support to those affected by the disaster.

In addition to food, the relief package also includes non-food items like foam mattresses, mosquito nets, and clothing for women. The Ebonyi State Government has promised a transparent distribution process to ensure that the aid reaches those in need.

As conditions worsen, residents in some areas, such as Amaegbu Akaeze, have faced new flooding, forcing families to evacuate their homes. State emergency teams are monitoring the situation and assessing water levels across vulnerable areas.
