NAF Aircraft Crash Claims Lives of Officers with Personal Stories of Loss

A tragic aircraft crash involving the Nigerian Air Force occurred on Monday in Igbokoda, Ondo, leading to the deaths of several personnel. Among the victims was Squadron Leader Mamud I. Aburimen, who was studying for his master’s degree in Mass Communication at the University of Benin.

Aburimen had attended the university just days before the crash for a make-up test. His classmates and teachers described him as disciplined and dedicated to his studies despite the demands of his military career. Class representative Desmond Odiah shared that Aburimen was committed to attending classes whenever possible and maintained communication about academic matters.

Another victim, Flight Lieutenant M. Akintoye, had visited his mother on her birthday shortly before the crash. He stopped by to celebrate with her and inform her about his team’s trip to Lagos. A family member noted that the family was devastated, as the day meant for celebration turned into one of mourning.

The co-pilot, Flight Lieutenant I. S. Bako, had recently married just weeks before the accident, adding to the sorrow felt by his loved ones. In tribute to the deceased officers, flags were flown at half-mast at the Air Force military base and hospital.

This tragic incident has highlighted not only the loss of life but also the personal stories of the officers, their families, and their aspirations that were cut short while serving their country.
