On October 28, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force North West, known as Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully thwarted a terrorist ambush in Zamfara and rescued two herders in Sokoto State.

According to Captain Tamuno Sinivie, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, the troops were on patrol along the Anka–Guruzu Road when they were attacked by armed men. The soldiers responded with strong firepower, causing heavy losses to the attackers and forcing them to retreat.

During this encounter, one soldier was injured but is now in stable condition after receiving medical care. The troops managed to secure the road, allowing safe passage for travelers.

In a related operation in Sokoto State, the troops acted on reliable information about a planned attack on herders and livestock. They quickly mobilized to Takasaba Village, where they confronted the terrorists, who fled, leaving behind 520 livestock and two abducted herders, identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14.

The rescued herders were handed over to local authorities for care. The operations highlight the troops’ readiness and commitment to protecting communities in the North-West region.

Major General W.B. Idris, the Theatre Commander, praised the soldiers for their bravery and urged them to continue their efforts against terrorist groups. He also encouraged the public to share information with security forces to aid ongoing operations.
