Governor Eno Hits Back at Divisive Leaders, Demands Unity Across Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has called out political figures and community leaders attempting to stir ethnic discord, warning that his administration will not allow self-serving narratives to undermine the state’s long-standing peace and unity.
Speaking to journalists at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo shortly after returning from a working visit to Canada, Governor Eno reacted directly to recent political friction sparked by groups challenging local zoning arrangements while he was out of the country. He urged citizens and political actors to reject statements meant to incite tribal sentiments or distract the government from its development goals ahead of upcoming political seasons.
Reaffirming his commitment to the “Akwa Ibom United” agenda, the governor stressed that his administration operates an inclusive governance structure where no local government or ethnic group is marginalized. He noted that major political appointments—such as the roles of Deputy Governor and Chief Delivery Advisor—as well as developmental projects are evenly distributed across all 31 local government areas and three senatorial districts based on merit and regional balance rather than ethnic origin.
Addressing economic matters alongside his security warning, Governor Eno also provided an update on his official trip to Mirabel, Quebec, where he conducted a pre-delivery inspection of a new Airbus A220-300 aircraft for Ibom Air’s expanding fleet. He noted that progress on the state’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) aviation facility and the accompanying aviation village will soon position Akwa Ibom as a regional aviation hub, boosting local revenue and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
