Relief for Senator Adeola as Political Opponents Voluntarily Drop Four Court Cases Challenging His Ogun 2027 Governorship Ticket

Legal clouds hovering over the governorship ambitions of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola have cleared after four separate lawsuits seeking to void his candidacy as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the 2027 Ogun State gubernatorial election were voluntarily discontinued by the plaintiffs.

The legal retreat was confirmed in an official statement released by Adeola’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, who revealed that the litigants entered notices of discontinuance in open court, with all co-defendants and their respective legal teams duly notified. The development removes a major legal hurdle just as campaign preparations and political alignments begin taking shape across the state.

The discontinued litigations had attempted to block Adeola’s emergence through different legal channels. The first case, marked Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was filed by Prof. Awolola Awoniyi under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, joining Senator Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited, and the Inspector-General of Police as respondents.

The three other cases—Suits No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026, and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26—were filed by a coalition of opposition party executives and political actors. The plaintiffs included Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of the Booth Party; Mr. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP); Dr. Olufemi Soluade and Mr. Ola Olamide Emmanuel of the Action Democratic Party (ADP); alongside members of the Labour Party.

The litigants gave no public reasons for abruptly withdrawing their legal challenges. However, legal and political observers note that the simultaneous collapse of the suits deals a severe blow to efforts aimed at using judicial technicalities to derail Adeola’s bid before formal electioneering begins.

Senator Adeola, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has remained a dominant political heavyweight in Ogun State politics following his transition from representing Lagos West to winning the Ogun West senatorial seat. While his emergence as the frontline contender for the state’s apex seat has generated friction from rival party factions and opposition platforms, his camp has insisted that his candidacy represents broad-based consensus and strictly adheres to electoral laws.

With the legal challenges now formally struck out, Adeola’s political structure is set to shift into full gear, focusing on grassroots consolidation, reconciliation, and voter outreach across Ogun West, Central, and East senatorial districts.
