Governor Aiyedatiwa Rollouts Free Delivery Kits to Cut Childbirth Costs in Ondo

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has launched the “Ibi Irorun” Safe Delivery Initiative, an intervention designed to ease the financial pressure of medical expenses for expectant mothers across the state.

Unveiled at the Basic Healthcare Centre in Arakale, Akure, the first phase of the rollout provides 1,000 specialized pregnancy kits directly to pregnant women. Each maternity pack contains 13 essential hospital items approved by the governor including sanitary supplies, wrappers, and clinical consumables allowing women to arrive at health facilities fully prepared for delivery without heavy out-of-pocket costs.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the initiative complements existing government policies that guarantee free delivery services at public clinics. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Bosede Osamaye, stated that providing these pre-packaged supplies relieves husbands and expectant mothers of the costly pre-delivery shopping lists usually required by hospitals.

The state government also reiterated its broader commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector, pointing to the enrollment of more than 300,000 residents in the Ondo State Health Insurance Scheme alongside ongoing renovations across dozens of primary healthcare centers. Health officials encouraged beneficiaries to take their maternity kits to assigned facilities once labor begins while maintaining regular antenatal care for healthy maternal outcomes.
