Former Governor Oyetola Demands Swift Arrests as Post-Election Violence Leaves Deaths in Osun

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has issued a stern condemnation of the post-election violence disrupting peace across communities in Osun State.

The Minister’s statement comes amid growing concern over violent clashes between rival political groups following the state’s recent gubernatorial election. The Osun State Police Command confirmed that suspected political thugs invaded Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area, leaving two civilians dead and two police officers nursing severe injuries.

In an official public release issued through his Special Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola described the attacks as an unacceptable assault on the state’s democratic heritage. The Minister declared that “no political ambition, localized transition, or commercial interest can ever justify the taking of a human life,” stressing that politics must serve development rather than fuel bloodshed.

Urging law enforcement to take immediate charge of volatile areas, Oyetola called on security agencies to reclaim public spaces from criminal elements and ensure all individuals responsible for the killings are brought to book. He expressed deep condolences to affected families and appealed to community leaders across Osun to prioritize peace and embrace peaceful dialogue.
