Fire in Lagos Destroys Homes, Two Men Rescued from Blaze

On Tuesday night, a fire broke out at 43 Onitire Road, Smith Bus Stop, Itire, Lagos, resulting in significant damage to a bungalow and an adjoining two-storey building. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reported that the fire started around 9:10 p.m., and firefighters arrived at the scene by 9:35 p.m.

Two men were rescued from the blaze, including a 75-year-old man who was found alive in the bungalow. A 42-year-old man sustained burn injuries while attempting to save the elderly man and was taken to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment.

The fire severely damaged the bungalow and its contents, while the upper floor of the two-storey building suffered minor damage. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, but the cause is still being investigated. Preliminary assessments suggest that an electrical surge may have started the fire.

Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, urged residents to maintain their electrical systems properly and avoid overloading sockets. She also advised that residents should turn off electrical appliances when not in use and report fire emergencies immediately.

Firefighting efforts involved personnel from several local fire stations, along with support from the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
