Court to Rule on Atiku’s Request to Change Suit Against Tinubu and APC on Nov. 20

The Federal High Court in Abuja has set November 20 for a decision on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s request to change his lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision follows a court session where lawyers for both sides presented their arguments.

Atiku, who is the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is asking the court to disqualify Tinubu and the APC from the upcoming 2027 presidential election. His main concern is about the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate that Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Atiku claims that this certificate is forged.

During the hearing, Atiku’s lawyer, Joseph Silas, explained that they want to amend their original lawsuit due to some errors they noticed after the defendants submitted their counter arguments. He stated that the amendment is necessary to clarify certain points and correct the documents attached to their case.

However, lawyers for Tinubu, the APC, and INEC opposed this request. They argued that Atiku’s motion to amend the suit was not valid and should be dismissed. They claimed that the application was filed too late and that it attempted to introduce new issues that were not part of the original lawsuit.

After hearing from both sides, Justice Inyang Ekwo decided to postpone the ruling until November 20. The court will then determine whether Atiku’s motion to amend the suit will be accepted.

In their response, Tinubu and the APC denied any wrongdoing, insisting that they did not submit a forged certificate to INEC. They argued that the NYSC has confirmed the authenticity of the certificate issued to Tinubu.
