Federal Government Details Selection Process for N50,000 Relief Fund
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced how it will select households to receive a cash grant of ₦50,000 under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI). This program aims to assist vulnerable families manage increasing living expenses through direct cash transfers.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction is responsible for implementing this initiative. Selected beneficiaries will receive their funds via mobile wallets through payment providers like ALAT, MoMo, NairaGram, OPay, and Moniepoint. The government emphasized that this method ensures quick and clear delivery of financial support.
To access the ₦50,000 grant, beneficiaries must follow four steps:
- Receive an SMS: Selected individuals will get a text message from a payment provider confirming their selection.
- Confirm participation: They must reply with ‘YES’ to accept the grant.
- Activate the mobile wallet: A mobile wallet will be created linked to their phone number and National Identification Number.
- Receive and withdraw the money: The ₦50,000 will be deposited in the wallet, which can be accessed through various methods, including Point of Sale agents or banks.
Beneficiaries will also receive specific codes to withdraw their funds from different payment providers.
The selection of beneficiaries is based on verified national identity records and the National Social Register. The government clarified that individuals cannot apply or pay to be included in the program. Not everyone will be selected in the first round.
Authorities have warned recipients to be cautious of fraudsters trying to take advantage of the program. The government stated that the grant is free, and no one is authorized to ask for payment or personal banking information. Genuine messages will only come from the designated payment providers and will not request sensitive information.
