Father Arrested for Allegedly Beating 10-Year-Old Daughter in Imo State

The police in Imo State have arrested a man named Lucky Adim for allegedly beating his 10-year-old daughter, Confidence Adim, with an electric cable in Owerri. The arrest took place on Friday after a human rights group, Stand for Humanity Foundation, received a report about the child’s severe injuries.

Chidiebube Okeoma, the President of the Foundation, shared details in a statement on Monday. He explained that Confidence and her two younger siblings were found on the streets by caring individuals and brought to the Foundation for help.

Following the report, the Foundation urged the Owerri Urban Divisional Police Headquarters to investigate the case. The police arrested Adim, who reportedly admitted to the abuse. Okeoma stated, “Mr. Lucky Adim was arrested by the police in Owerri on Friday. His arrest was initiated by us at Stand for Humanity Foundation after good Nigerians brought the brutalised child and her two younger siblings to us.”

The Foundation took Confidence to the Police Hospital in Owerri for medical treatment, while her siblings were placed in an orphanage for temporary care. They are also covering the costs of her medical care.

Okeoma emphasized that child abuse is a serious issue and should not be ignored as a private family matter. He urged the police to ensure that Adim is prosecuted, highlighting that such actions are punishable under Nigerian law. He stated, “Child abuse is not a family affair. It is a constitutional issue.”

The Foundation plans to follow through with legal actions to ensure justice for Confidence and hopes this case will discourage other parents from abusing their children.
