Tragic Bus Accident in Kwara Leaves One Dead and 20 Injured

One person died and 20 others were injured in a bus accident on Sunday evening in Kwara State, Nigeria. The incident occurred around 6:35 PM on the Oko-Olowo Expressway, near Iye-Maja Junction in Ilorin.

According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the bus, which was carrying 21 passengers, suffered a tyre burst while in motion. This caused the vehicle to lose control, flip over, and catch fire.

Hassan Adekunle, the Public Relations Officer for the Fire Service, reported that firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to carry out emergency operations. They evacuated the passengers and transported those injured to the hospital. Unfortunately, one person was confirmed dead.

The Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. He urged vehicle operators to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained and safe to drive.

He highlighted the need for regular checks of crucial vehicle parts, such as tyres and brakes, to prevent accidents. He also advised drivers to be cautious on the roads and to report emergencies to the appropriate authorities.
