John Momoh Urges Unity Among Political Parties Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Elections

With the 2027 general elections in Nigeria approaching, Dr. John Momoh, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Channels Media Group, has urged political parties to avoid language that could create division in the country. He made these comments during a keynote address at the 38th Dr. Sam Epelle Gold Paper Lecture in Yola, Adamawa State.

Momoh emphasized that using ethnic or religious appeals in politics can lead to distrust among neighbors. He stated that political opponents should not be viewed as enemies. Instead, he called for healthy debate and the freedom to challenge those in power without dehumanizing others.

He noted that as political competition heats up, it is crucial for leaders to choose their words carefully. Misleading statements and divisive rhetoric can escalate tensions, especially in a charged political environment.

Momoh also highlighted the importance of effective leadership in addressing economic issues. He pointed out that the success of economic policies should be felt in the daily lives of citizens, particularly regarding the cost of living. He mentioned recent reports indicating slight improvements in Nigeria’s economy, but stressed that families still feel the pinch of rising prices.

On security, he called for better support and resources for security agencies to tackle violence and crime across the country. He urged leaders to communicate honestly about security challenges and ensure that citizens feel safe in their communities.

Momoh concluded by praising Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for his efforts in improving infrastructure and public services in Adamawa State. He emphasized that good governance requires transparency and accountability, as citizens want to see real results from their leaders.
