Enugu Socialite Dies After Police Raid on Birthday Party
A birthday party in Enugu, Nigeria, turned deadly when Nnaji Izuchukwu, a well-known socialite, was shot during a police raid. The party took place at Bull Hotel in the Asata area, where a misunderstanding among guests prompted hotel management to call the police.
According to reports, the police from the Anti-Cultism Section responded to the situation. During the chaos, Izuchukwu reportedly tried to escape through a window with another person. It was during this attempt that he was shot, although the exact details of the incident remain unclear.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed Izuchukwu’s death and announced an investigation into the shooting. Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered a thorough review of the events surrounding the incident.
The police operation was reportedly aimed at arresting Nworie Chidera Kelvin, also known as “Akidi,” who is suspected of drug dealing and gang involvement. During the raid, Akidi and nine others were arrested, and illegal items including suspected cannabis and a scale for measuring drugs were seized.
As the police pursued Izuchukwu and another suspect who attempted to flee, a struggle ensued, leading to the gun being fired. Izuchukwu was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. His body has been sent to a mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.
Commissioner Giwa has assured the family and friends of the deceased that the investigation will be thorough. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and adherence to rules during police operations.
