Ekiti Governor Highlights Economic Growth and Low Food Inflation in Annual Address
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji recently celebrated the state’s economic growth, noting that its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is approaching N8.8 trillion. He spoke during the annual State of the State Address at the Ekiti State House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti.
In his address, Oyebanji emphasized his commitment to improving the lives of Ekiti residents through development initiatives. He mentioned that his administration has attracted billions in investments and increased the state’s revenue. This positive trend has been recognized by federal agencies and financial watchdogs.
The governor also highlighted that Ekiti has the lowest food inflation rate in Nigeria. He credited this achievement to efforts in promoting agriculture and setting up local businesses like the Ilu Eye Aggregation and Trading Company Limited. His administration is focused on making food affordable and accessible by selling locally produced items such as garri, beans, and rice.
During the address, Oyebanji provided updates on pension payments, stating that over N11 billion has been disbursed to pensioners. He also reported that the state’s GDP has grown significantly, moving from N2.4 trillion in 2019 to N4.6 trillion in 2023.
Members of the State Assembly praised the governor for his achievements and the strong collaboration between the executive and legislative branches. The Speaker of the Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, highlighted the importance of teamwork in governance.
As this was Oyebanji’s last State of the State Address, he expressed hope for continued economic growth and development in the future. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the deputy governor and traditional leaders.
