Ogun West Senatorial District Pushes for Local Leadership Ahead of 2027 Elections
As the 2027 gubernatorial elections approach, the people of Ogun West Senatorial District are eager to see one of their own take the governor’s office for the first time in 50 years. Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), is at the forefront of this movement.
Ogun West is home to the Yewa and Awori people and includes local government areas such as Yewa South and Yewa North. Despite having a significant population and being a major contributor to the state’s economy, Ogun West has remained the least developed district in Ogun State since its creation in 1976.
Senator Yayi has a long history in politics, having served in various capacities over the past two decades. He has previously represented areas in Lagos State and now serves Ogun West. His achievements include improving infrastructure, such as roads and schools, and enhancing healthcare facilities. His initiatives have aimed to empower local communities and improve living conditions.
Political groups in Ogun West are rallying behind Yayi, hoping to end decades of political exclusion. Many potential candidates have withdrawn their ambitions to support him, signaling strong local backing. This includes notable figures like former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, and former senator Iyabo Obasanjo.
However, Yayi faces scrutiny regarding his claims of being a local indigene, with some opponents questioning his ties to Ogun State. Despite these challenges, support for his candidacy remains strong, with many believing he can bring much-needed change to the region.
As the election date nears, the people of Ogun West are determined to unite and push for a candidate who they believe represents their interests and can lead them into a new era of governance.
