Dangote and Sanusi Encourage Lotus Capital to Boost Investments in Nigeria’s Economy
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, and former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Muhammadu Sanusi II, have urged Lotus Capital Limited to increase its investments in Nigeria’s real economy. This call was made during the company’s 20th anniversary celebration in Lagos.
During the event, Dangote praised Lotus Capital for its growth from a small startup to a significant player in the investment sector. He recognized the company’s role in Nigeria’s non-interest finance market and highlighted the need for more support for productive industries.
Dangote noted that Lotus Capital has raised over ₦1 trillion to support more than 4,000 businesses. He emphasized the potential for Nigeria to attract more long-term capital through Sharia-compliant financing options, such as Sukuk bonds. He identified key sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, and agriculture as areas needing more diverse funding.
Sanusi, speaking via Zoom, echoed Dangote’s sentiments, urging Lotus Capital to expand its reach and provide long-term financing for vital sectors. He stressed the importance of innovation in deepening the market.
Lotus Capital’s Managing Director, Mrs. Hajara Adeola, stated the company plans to enhance its support for the real economy by focusing on agriculture, manufacturing, and renewable energy. She highlighted the company’s achievements, including developing several investment funds and advising the government on its Sukuk issuances.
The anniversary event also included a panel discussion on innovation and governance in non-interest finance, featuring notable figures from various sectors.
