Alaafin of Oyo Welcomed with Traditional Ceremony in Australia

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, was warmly welcomed by the Yoruba community at Melbourne Airport in Australia. This event took place recently and was marked by a vibrant display of cultural attire and traditional customs.

A video shared on social media shows the 46th Alaafin arriving at the airport, where a large crowd gathered to honor him. Many attendees wore aso-oke, a traditional Yoruba fabric, and some were seen kneeling to show their respect as the monarch entered the arrivals hall.

Oba Owoade was dressed in a purple embroidered agbada, adorned with coral beads, and carried a traditional staff. As he made his way through the airport, several people presented him with bouquets of flowers, while others captured the moment on their phones. A woman in matching purple attire accompanied him.

The celebration continued outside the terminal, where a black vehicle awaited to take the Alaafin to his next destination. A man in striped aso-oke assisted him as he entered the vehicle, maintaining the customs of respect for the traditional ruler.

Oba Owoade is the 46th Alaafin and received his title from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde after succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III. His visit highlights the cultural significance of the Oyo Kingdom among the Yoruba people living in Australia.

Details about the purpose of his visit, his hosts, and how long he will stay have not been disclosed yet, as there has been no official statement from the palace regarding this trip.
