Abia Governor Otti Urges Supporters to Respect Opposition Campaigns
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has cautioned Labour Party supporters not to interfere with the campaign activities of opposition parties as the 2027 general elections approach. He emphasized that he has not given anyone permission to disrupt their democratic rights.
Otti issued this warning during the Labour Party’s campaign launch in Umuahia. He stated that anyone obstructing rival political parties from holding lawful rallies would face arrest, regardless of their party affiliation.
The governor affirmed that opposition parties are welcome to use public facilities like stadiums, as long as they follow the proper procedures and pay necessary fees. He has instructed security agencies to ensure that no political group is prevented from conducting legitimate campaign activities.
“You do not have my mandate to attack people or stop them from campaigning,” Otti said. He made it clear that even Labour Party members would be held accountable if they tried to undermine the democratic process.
Otti also challenged opposition parties to focus on policy discussions and the future of the state, rather than resorting to personal attacks. He noted that the political debate should move beyond basic issues like salary payments and road construction.
He encouraged opposition parties to base their claims on available data about the state’s progress, citing various performance rankings. Otti expressed confidence that Abia is making significant strides under his leadership and urged residents to support the Labour Party’s campaign.
The campaign event included the presentation of party flags to candidates for the upcoming National and State Houses of Assembly elections, with many supporters present to show their solidarity.
