Nuno Mendes Named Best Left-Back in World Football, Cucurella and Dimarco Follow
Nuno Mendes, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, has been recognized as the best left-back in the world, according to a recent ranking by Planet Football. He is followed by Marc Cucurella of Real Madrid and Federico Dimarco from Inter Milan.
The ranking, released on Wednesday, highlights Mendes’ strong defensive skills, his ability to win one-on-one battles, and his contributions to attacking plays. His role has been crucial to PSG’s success in the UEFA Champions League, especially alongside right-back Achraf Hakimi.
In the list of ten top left-backs, Riccardo Calafiori from Arsenal comes in fourth, while Alex Grimaldo of Atletico Madrid is fifth. Lewis Hall from Newcastle United is sixth, and Nico O’Reilly from Manchester City ranks seventh. Bayern Munich’s Nathaniel Brown is in eighth place, followed by Alphonso Davies at ninth, despite struggles with injuries. Rounding out the top ten is Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie.
Planet Football noted that injuries have affected Davies’ performance, but recent games show he still has a lot to contribute. The report also praised Brown for quickly adapting to Bayern Munich, where he has already scored and assisted in his first few matches.
The publication emphasized the growing importance of modern full-backs, who are expected to play both defensive and offensive roles in their teams. Mendes, in particular, is described as an all-around defender, making him a key player in PSG’s strategy under coach Luis Enrique.
