APC’s Basiru Calls on Former Assembly Leaders to Support Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign

APC’s Basiru Calls on Former Assembly Leaders to Support Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign

Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on former leaders of State Houses of Assembly to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He made this appeal during a recent event organized by the Kaduna State chapter of former assembly speakers.

The event, themed “Kaduna 2026: United Voices of Experience, All Together for Tinubu 2027,” highlighted the importance of experienced political figures in strengthening the party’s grassroots presence ahead of the elections. Basiru emphasized that their backgrounds in public service could help explain the government’s economic policies and counter opposition criticisms.

Basiru noted that Tinubu faced significant financial challenges when he took office, leading to tough decisions such as removing the petrol subsidy and changing the foreign exchange system. He claimed these reforms, although initially difficult, have improved the ability of state governments to pay salaries and invest in projects.

He encouraged political leaders to communicate the goals of these reforms to the public, including the challenges faced during implementation. Basiru also challenged opposition leaders to reflect on their own records before criticizing the current administration.

Specifically, he questioned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s economic plans, referencing his past roles in government and concerns about the sale of national assets. He warned voters to be cautious of unrealistic promises from opposition candidates.

Basiru urged former assembly leaders to engage with their communities and help voters evaluate political parties and candidates based on their actual performance. He stressed that effective communication and unity within the party are essential for a successful campaign leading up to the elections.

He concluded by reiterating the need for party members to spread the administration’s message and build support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
