Gunmen Attack Taraba Community, Killing 10 and Stealing Food Supplies

On Friday afternoon, a violent attack in Binnari village, Taraba State, resulted in the deaths of at least ten residents. A large group of armed bandits stormed the village, firing indiscriminately and stealing food supplies from local shops.

The incident occurred on October 23, 2026, around 3:00 p.m., shortly after the community finished their Jumu’ah prayers. According to the police, the bandits, who were heavily armed, caused chaos in the village as they carried out their attack.

Local police and community volunteers responded quickly to distress calls. They found ten bodies with serious gunshot wounds, which were later returned to their families for burial in line with Islamic traditions.

In response to the attack, the State Commissioner of Police, Edwin Ogbeghagha, heightened security in the area. He ordered the deployment of joint teams from the Nigeria Police Force, Police Mobile Force, and the Nigerian Army to search the surrounding areas for the attackers.

The police have urged residents of Binnari and nearby communities to stay calm and avoid spreading panic. They also encouraged locals to cooperate with security forces by providing any information that could help catch the attackers.
