Nigeria’s Health Agency Responds to Ebola Outbreak with Emergency Meeting

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) held an emergency meeting to address an Ebola outbreak declared by the Federal Government. This meeting took place on October 21, 2026, just a day after the outbreak was officially announced.

The NCDC stated that the meeting gathered leaders and key partners to discuss response strategies. They are working on an Incident Action Plan to manage the situation effectively.

According to the NCDC, teams are already in the field focusing on several important tasks. These include monitoring the situation closely, tracing individuals who may have been in contact with the infected person, preventing the spread of the virus, and communicating risks to the public.

The Federal Government confirmed the first case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory. The patient is a woman who recently traveled from Uganda and was treated at a private hospital before her diagnosis was confirmed. She is currently in isolation to prevent further spread of the virus.

The NCDC emphasized its commitment to a quick and coordinated response to protect the health of Nigerians.
