Twenty People Die in Multiple Vehicle Crashes on Plateau Road
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 20 people died in a series of road traffic accidents along the Hawan Kibo-Jos route in Plateau. The accidents occurred on Friday afternoon after Sopp Water Falls, with brake failure and loss of control identified as likely causes.
According to the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Osondu Ohaeri, a total of 25 people were involved in the crashes, including 23 males and two females. Five individuals sustained injuries, while the deceased were all males.
Four vehicles were involved in the accidents, including a Howo Sino truck, a Toyota Corolla, a bus operated by Yankari Express, and a motorcycle. The injured victims were taken to Ryom General Hospital and Vom Christian Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to JUTH Mortuary.
FRSC rescue personnel worked to clear the road and restore traffic flow after the accidents. The Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, expressed his sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to the families affected. He also called for a thorough investigation into the crashes.
Mohammed emphasized the importance of road safety, urging drivers, especially those of commercial and heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive and to practice responsible driving. He highlighted that the loss of 20 lives represents the grief of many families, urging all road users to prioritize safety.
